Breaking Bread

Our Story

Breaking Bread Food Bank was started on the 1st September 2012 by the churches of Wednesbury.

Our aim is to help individuals and families who, through circumstances, find themselves in crisis. We provide them with enough food to last 3 days.

We deliver this service in a caring and friendly atmosphere where people feel welcomed regardless of their beliefs, ethnicity or background.

All staff are volunteers and we rely on donations to keep going.

What We Do

Donations

Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to our foodbank. All types of non-perishable food donations are welcome. We are particularly desperate for UHT milk, tinned tomatoes, tinned fruit, tinned rice pudding and all toiletries, including toilet rolls.

Volunteers

At Breaking Bread we rely entirely on volunteers. Our volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need. Get in touch using the contact details below if you would like become a volunteer.

Our Clients

A wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, schools, churches, welfare rights centres and Citizens Advice identify people in crisis and issue them with a food bank voucher. Our clients bring their voucher to a food bank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food.
